Poizat, ChloéPhantasma
Dominique Goblet’s selection for her storefront.
Chloe Poizat, here it’s more a question of drawings, forms that dialogue, flickering abstractions, organic installations; minimal, strange, flowing, smoky, tubercular world. It is difficult to talk about it. It’s something to look at, something you can’t forget.
Etymology is never a fool’s errand. From its origin (phantazo) phantasma has retained the idea of making visible, exposing to view, showing, hence the notions of apparition, spectre or ghost. We also find in the New Testament an occurrence of phantazo translated this time by the word spectacle. And so terrifying was this spectacle that Moses says: I am terrified and trembling (Letter to the Hebrews, 12.24). In this respect, all the apparitions that take shape here, adopting contours, figures, colors, compose a spectacle that is as captivating as it is disconcerting, to the point that the spectacle becomes a story, as if there could be narratives to be drawn, narratives of the apparition itself, of which Chloé Poizat’s compositions would write a few lines. A history of forms, modes and materials of the appearance, not as simple surfaces which would be only appearances or reflections, but as images of beings emerging from their most ancient origins, their most distant depths.
