Aimé Mpane Enkobo trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kinshasa where he specialised in painting. Then, in 1994, he moved to Belgium, took painting classes at the Brussels Chamber of Commerce and decided to devote himself to other mediums such as sculpture and installations. After questioning his origins several times, he began to create personal works denouncing the shortcomings of Africa or reflecting on the question of childhood and identity.
He travels back and forth between Africa and Brussels. In Kinshasa, he confronted the population, and in particular the children, whose testimonies of violence he collected. From there, he created poignant works such as Don’t touch me, or The broken dream, but also sculptures representing children’s faces bruised by life or conflicts. Aimé Mpane Enkobo’s entire oeuvre depicts social injustice and is permeated with existential questions.
