In his internationally renowned works, Rinus Van de Velde (°1983) creates a parallel universe in which elements of reality and imagination merge into a unique form of visual narrative. Van de Velde takes us on a journey into his imagination, a place that transcends time and space, where all encounters are possible and all paths can be taken. This book sketches a circular story of departures and returns, with the train as a metaphor, and offers an overview of Van de Velde’s most recent work. The whole is in dialogue with the work of modern and contemporary artists such as Pierre Bonnard, Joseph Cornell, Fischli/Weiss, Joan Mitchell, Claude Monet, Monster Chetwynd, Laure Prouvost, Josephine Troller and Jean Tinguely.
Inner Travels is the book that accompanies the exhibition of the same name, which will be held at Bozar from 18 February to 15 May 2022 during the Europalia art festival. With text contributions by Ursula Ströbele, Koen Sels, Stefaan Vervoort, Julie Verheye and Dirk Vermaelen.
