Corps Vivante
In 1990, Julie Delporte had never seen a butch, but her favourite aunt hunted and smoked cigars. Almost twenty years later, she published a book about Tove Jansson in which she happily recounts that this Finnish artist was the first woman she identified with, only she was a lesbian and not Julie. At the age of 35, after having highlighted her copy of Monique Wittig’s La pensée straight in every colour, Julie Delporte stopped wearing dresses and took her future in hand.
In this graphic novel, which follows on from Moi aussi je voulais l’emporter, the author traces the history of her sexuality. A story marked by the unfortunately all-too-common violence of aggression, as well as by the clichés and injunctions linked to a culture of performance and heteronormativity.
