Trinh T. Minh-HaFemme, indigène, autre : écrire le féminisme et la postcolonialité
In Woman, Indigenous, Other, Trinh T. Minh-ha explores the question of writing from a postcolonial and feminist perspective. This book, which is situated at the intersection of different fields – literary criticism, anthropology, cultural studies, gender studies – juxtaposes several contemporary discourses from dominant cultures in order to question the stylistic and theoretical orthodoxy required in the process of producing knowledge and literary works.
In doing so, the author interrogates the practices of a new generation of postcolonial feminist theorists and gives voice to women of colour who destabilise the dominance of an academic discourse that is distant from the masses by putting forward a non-linear and open-ended approach to writing. By distancing itself from traditional academic models and discourses, Woman, Indigenous, Other proposes new “ways of knowing” based on an alternative language, closer to the oral and spontaneous traditions of indigenous communities. Between an essay and a literary work, this book is unusual in its form and its content and participates in the search for a new articulation of the struggles and reflections of a generation of writers.
