In 1928, the Swiss architect Hannes Meyer succeeded Walter Gropius as director of the Bauhaus School in Dessau, a position he held until 1930. During this period, he set up the Advanced School of Collective Feeling, a course based on the conviction that the high school would become an essential public space, supplanting the museum. This course was based on a certain culture of the body and on collective exercise. This book explains Hannes Meyer’s concept, shows its impact on design and architecture, and recreates the experience in the present day to analyse its consequences.
