Albarrán CabreraA l'écoute des arbres
Spanish artists Angel Albarrán and Anna Cabrera have a special relationship with nature. A source of inspiration, a photographic subject or an almost unreal setting, nature is always present in one way or another in their images. Trees are a common thread running through their work, often appearing in the shadows of a branch, the outline of foliage that has become abstract, or a tortuous silhouette in the centre of the frame. The images alternate between a palette of bright colours, bordering on abstraction, and more monochrome tones, evoking a certain melancholy and plunging us into timeless landscapes. The result evokes a dreamlike, almost surreal world, typical of the Spanish duo.
But trees are not the only subject of this book. The photographers’ aim was to explore the relationship between man and nature in a broader sense, and to give form to their thoughts by associating them with literature, in particular the writings of the German novelist, poet and painter Hermann Hesse. A text by the author and agronomist, Yves Darricau, on man’s historical complicity with trees through the ages, now under threat, completes this book celebrating their presence in our world.
