What do museums collect?
‘What Museums Do’, a research project at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea (MMCA), examines practices and future possibilities of contemporary art museums. The second volume in the series publishes its 2018 symposium, “What Do Museums Collect?” An important aspect of the museum is the philosophy of its collection, which in turn requires a consideration of what museums should collect. The book is structured in two parts: the first explores the relationship between discourses on the “others”, while the second focuses on the remediation of collections in contemporary museums, as well as the media and formal changes in contemporary art.
