Jonas MekasConversations with Film-makers
Jonas Mekas, born in Lithuania, came to Brooklyn via Germany in 1949 and began shooting his first films there. Mekas developed a form of logbook in which he recorded his daily observations. Every week, from 1958 to 1977, he published his “Movie Journal” column in the Village Voice, conducting numerous interviews with filmmakers from around the world. Conversations is the first time that these interviews with his friends and filmmaker associates are brought together in a book. Mekas recorded the conversations with his camera. Among the films he shot with his interviewees, Mekas selected a photo or still image to present each interview. The collection of texts is supplemented by letters and excerpts from related scripts/scripts and completed by an index of the people involved.
