Anni & Josef Albers Égaux et Inégaux
This monograph presents for the first time the incredible creativity and the strong relationship between the Albers couple. Joseph painter, designer and teacher as well as Anni textile artist, weaver and engraver, both of whom are among the most important abstract artists of the 20th century. This book highlights their life and work through their formative years at the Bauhaus in Germany, their remarkable influence at Black Mountain College in the United States, and their extremely productive period in Connecticut. It consists of 750 illustrations: from Josef’s famous “Homage to the Square” series, to photocollages and stained glass windows, to Anni’s beautiful weavings and textile drawings, as well as previously unpublished photographs, sketches, installation views of her wall hangings and vibrant prints.
