Françoise Fromonot’s investigations are a demonstration of the interest of architectural criticism. In this book, she takes up the thread of a project – the development of the Halles de Paris – already passed under the thread of her incisive scalpel in a previous book (La campagne des Halles, 2005). By staying as close as possible to field investigation, it highlights the succession of failures around this project. Based on this case study as particular as it is exemplary, this book highlights the concrete springs of the manufacturing of the urban environment today: it will not only interest space professionals and Parisians, but all those who worry about the impact, present and future, of globalization on the daily lives of city dwellers.
