El Croquis Studio Mumbai Hb (157+200)
Bijoy Jain (born in India in 1965) founded the Mumbai studio in 2005. More than a studio, he turned it into a collective workshop where architects, engineers, carpenters and masons trained in traditional Indian building techniques but also inspired by Western culture work hand in hand. This hardback reprint of two issues of El Croquis reviews the architecture studio’s most acclaimed work between 2003 and 2019. Among the projects presented are Casa Tara in Kashid, Palmyra House in Nandgaon, Copper House II and the Ganga Maki Textile Studio in the Himalayan foothills. Based in the heart of the metropolis of Mumbai, Bijoy Jain’s approach is “slow, inclusive, in the smallest detail, in model rather than plan, in the office as well as on the site, in collective rather than master.”
