Elise PeroiWhat Remains of Gesture
“The work of weaving, which requires patience, repetition, and body mechanics, soon made me think about the time spent on the work and what, through these repeated gestures, creates a form of dance.
Artistic or artisanal, each piece is the result of intertwined movements, which are condensed in the work itself. The work itself carries the memory of the time spent on execution, on making, which often becomes invisible once the piece leaves the workshop.
Yet what precedes is comparable to a bud. In general, a dramaturgy is played out in the studio that is based on the power of the process. This is what I intend to explore in my sculpture and performance work. How to translate the reflection of these movements? How to infuse this essential presence into the material when the body has become absent?”
