The title of this publication refers to the subtle overpressure on an experimental housing project designed by Janssens. The book makes public for the first time the understudied work that is the balloon house. By publishing previously unpublished archival material, editors Peter Swinnen and Nikolaus Hirsch, together with the other authors of the book, critically reassess Janssens’ uncompromising spatial practice. “A.J. Lode Janssens – 1.47 mbar’ is the third volume in a series of books dedicated to independent architects, the previous editions being devoted to René Heyvaert and Luc Deleu & T.O.P. office.
