“This volume summarises the results of “The Aesthetics of Sustainability”, a research project conducted by the ECAL/Ecole cantonale d’art de Lausanne. The project brought together master’s students in product design, materials specialists, manufacturers and researchers to explore and define the aesthetic potential of a new generation of sustainable materials. The result is a series of fourteen case studies on the development of materials made from textile waste, recycled paper, rubber granules or plant fibres. The new materials can be shaped, pressed, woven or welded. A selection of these materials will be presented through experiments and product prototypes.”
