Anne De GelasL'Amoureuse
L’Amoureuse is an autobiographical chronicle of the immense pain of mourning the loss of a loved one. It is a narrative that combines, as it would years later in Mother and Son, diary extracts, photographs (self-portraits, portraits of her son, still lifes…) and scribbled drawings. These compositions have become characteristic of the style of this singular artist.
“T, my lover, my son’s father, died on 5 April 2010 of a stroke. He fell next to us on a beach in the North Sea. The violence of his death left me with a great emptiness… a silence that echoed in my head, echoed by the intense blue sky of the absence of planes, caused by the ashes of an angry volcano, my anger. Faced with this loss, I sank into my daily diary, which I’ve been keeping for over 10 years, writing down my suffering but also the overflow of life that was bubbling up inside me.” – Anne De Gelas (translated to English)
