Bye Bye Binary is a Franco-Belgian collective that explores new typo·graphic forms adapted to the French language, taking inclusive and post-binary language and writing as its starting point, field of experimentation and subject of research, notably through the design of characters, the creation of ligatures, median dots, connecting elements and symbiosis.

Proposing writings by the people concerned is essential for the creation of a living archive of typo·graphic practice that makes minority groups visible. This movement continues to grow, despite the opposition of those who hold the power to decide what is legible, and therefore visible. Bye Bye Binary thus fuels the debate on the political significance of graphic design, language, and representations of bodies and identities.

In the editorial, the members of the collective express their intentions for the magazine: a recommended resource, a space for expression and emotion, exploration, connection, repair, and demonstration of post-binary typography: ‘Our lives are fragile, like our ligatures, like our fleeting grammars. We don’t know what we are inventing, but we know that it transcends us, that it is for us and beyond us.’ This is why each issue also addresses gender issues in languages other than French.

The magazine aspires to embrace different levels of readability. A multitude of typo·graphical effects enrich the texts like glitter, like voices that make themselves heard and disrupt reading habits. Aesthetics thus become political, playing with norms and their margins both in the writing and in the layout.
