Laure Adler, Christian BoltanskiChristian Boltanski : Récits
“The contemporary artist looks back on his relationship with art, reflects on his creation, which became a way of life for him after adolescence, and also evokes the themes that run through his work: time, disappearance, narrative, myth, truth and religion.
Christian Boltanski has just passed away. This book of interviews was completed a fortnight before. He had decided on everything, the title, the cover, the order of the chapters. He seemed happy with the text, which he had carefully proofread and corrected. There was no testamentary dimension to it. Christian was inhabited by an uncommon life force, he laughed all the time, he was very funny, and it was a joy to do this book with him. He was, as they say, “a bon vivant”, even if his work, in its different registers and from the beginning, was haunted by death. Ephemerality, finitude, fragility, chance constitute the arch of his thoughts in a tight interlacing.”
