“David Chipperfield’s new building for the Kunsthaus Zürich now stands in all its splendour on the city’s Heimplatz, opposite the old museum building from 1910 designed by Karl Moser. When it opens to the public in October 2021, the Kunsthaus Zürich will be the largest art museum in Switzerland. Following on from the two previous volumes on the architectural history of the famous building and the project to transform it into an art museum for the 21st century, this book documents the genesis of David Chipperfield’s extension, from the proposal to the completed structure, including the political debates over the whole project. It includes a foreword by David Chipperfield and an essay by Christoph Felger, executive architect of the project at David Chipperfield Architects Berlin, who discusses the concept, the promise made and its realisation. A conversation between Christoph Felger, the director of the Zurich City Surveyor’s Office, Wiebke Roesler, and the director of the Kunsthaus Zurich, Christoph Becker, and the architecture critic Sabine von Fischer, as well as numerous illustrations and plans complete this new volume.”
