Hans Werner HolzwarthDavid Hockney : une chronologie

20.00 EUROS

“This special 40th anniversary edition of TASCHEN traces David Hockney’s career and life year by year for the first time.

Pop artist, painter of modern life and landscapes, master of colour, explorer of image and perception – for sixty years David Hockney has been known as an artist who is always finding new ways to explore the world and the ways in which it is represented. He has consistently created unforgettable images: graphic lines and text insertions in 1960s London; the famous Pool Series, a chronicle of Californian lifestyle in the 1970s; finely observed portraits and huge colour-saturated landscapes after his return to his native Yorkshire.

In addition to drawings in which he transposes what he sees directly onto paper, Polaroid collages of multiple viewpoints open up space into a myriad of detailed views, and his iPad drawings, in which he captures light with the most modern of tools, demonstrate Hockney’s intense and enduring taste for experimentation. This special edition has been compiled from the two volumes of the monograph David Hockney: A Bigger Book to celebrate the 40th anniversary of TASCHEN.
Hockney’s life and work are presented year by year in a dialogue between his works and the voices of each era, together with critics’ comments and the artist’s own reflections in a chronological text, enriched with photographic portraits and exhibition views. Taken together, these elements open up new perspectives that, page by page, reveal how Hockney undertakes his artistic quest, how he develops his paintings, and what inspires his multifaceted work.”
