Jared DiamondDe l'inégalité parmi les sociétés (on inequality among societies)
Hans Theys’ selection for his window display.
“In this history of the world, Jared Diamond shows that all our knowledge developed thanks to contacts between different cultures. The areas of the world that did not develop in the direction of ‘progress’ were geographically cut off from other areas. If the Mexicans made nothing of their invention of the wheel (apart from toys), it was because they had no animals to pull a cart. The invention of printing, for example, was made possible by the simultaneous presence of olive presses from Italy, paper from China, ink, the ability to cast lead letters, and so on. All made possible by the absence of geographical barriers (deserts, oceans, mountains) between China, Italy and Germany. A crazy book.
I write about Jared Diamond in my little book ‘Scotomia’, published in 2019 and available from Peinture Fraîche.” Hans Theys
