Sociologist Luc Boltanski, accompanied by Arnaud Esquerre, continues his analysis and criticism of the changes in capitalism by studying commodities. In this book, the two sociologists tackle the increasingly central role played by economic practices that exploit the “deposit of the past” (as opposed to the production of new objects typical of industrial modernity). They explore the modalities of development of this type of goods by making parallels between fields usually considered separately such as culture, the arts, tourism or the luxury industry. They also point out the new inequalities that these practices create.
