Valter VinagreHomen morto passou aqui
In “Homen morto passou aqui” (The dead man passed here), Valter Vinagre brings together a collection of some fifty photographic landscapes taken throughout Portugal and linked to episodes of the Peninsular War (1807-1814), which pitted Luso-British troops against Napoleon’s French army during its three attempts to invade Portuguese territory. The photographer became a historian, finding in the archives the precise places and dates of the advance of Napoleon’s armies, information that served as a protocol for placing his camera where the exact place was, at the presumed time.
