In this book, Yulia Popova seeks to highlight the work of women typographers. The first part of the book offers research on the gender issue in the field of type design. It includes statistics, data and an overview of some works dealing with this issue as well as biographies of women type designers who worked in the 19th and early 20th century. The second part is a series of interviews with 14 women currently working as type designers or otherwise involved in the field of type design. These interviews highlight the unequal distribution of male and female speakers at conferences on typography and the lack of women in the industry. The last part of the book is a showcase of typefaces designed by women that reveals the quantity and variety of these fonts.
