Josef Hoffmann – Sous le charme de la beauté
An innovative introduction to the iconic work of architect and designer Josef Hoffmann
The Viennese architect and all-round designer Josef Hoffmann (1870-1956) was much more than just the founder of the Wiener Werkstätte. This book provides an overview of his work, which spanned no less than 60 years.
The timeless beauty of Hoffmann’s creations testifies not only to his importance as a historical figure, but also as a source of inspiration for generations.
Richly illustrated with pieces of furniture, objects, drawings, textiles, photographs and documents. Particular attention is paid to his creative process and his little-known use of colour.
This monograph is being published to coincide with the exhibition Josef Hoffmann – Under the spell of beauty at the Musée Art et Histoire in Brussels from 6 October 2023 to 14 April 2024. The project was developed in collaboration with the Museum für angewandte Kunst (MAK) in Vienna, and is one of the highlights of the Year of Art Nouveau 2023 in Brussels.
