Barclay & Crousse Landscapes of Intimacy
“Barclay & Crousse occupies a prominent place on the Latin American architectural scene. Founded by Sandra Barclay (Lima, 1967) and Jean Pierre Crousse (Lima, 1963) in Paris, since 2006 the studio has been based in Lima, where it has carried out private projects and some public works that have allowed it to propose bold ideas that go beyond the architectural programme and the context: rather than establishing relationships with the landscape, its architecture is landscape in itself. His works explore the potential of matter, the depth of his façades, blurring the boundaries between inside and outside, and sacralising some of his meeting spaces where the extraordinary is part of the everyday.
Landscapes of Intimacy brings together five fundamental axes of their practice: landscapes and microcosms, ambiguous space, inside-outside, matter and the map, and the thickness of intimacy, explained through a selection of 12 projects including the Place of Memory, a series of houses in Peru and Building E at the University of Piura, which in 2018 won them the Mies Crown Hall Award of the Americas (mchap).”
