L’art d’accommoder les restes
The act of transformation negotiates with the idea of loss. The architectural project shifts realities, changing their form, leading us to concede a certain number of losses. Some of these are individual, others collective. The loss-generating condition of the architect is timeless. However, it is more acutely felt in the Anthropocene era. The overturning of the dominant modern ideals of growth, progress and the performative techniques of the pursuit of gains means that losses that can no longer be undone have disappeared from the surface.
So, in this paradigm shift that is generating disorder and tension, what can architecture do? What is it prepared to lose? What is it prepared to let disappear among its models? Eric David and Stéphanie David of Amas Architecture are seizing the opportunity to do things differently, and in so doing, to build other stories. Includes writings by Laurie Gangarossa and photographs by Cyrille Weiner.
