Ugo RondinoneLife time
“Ugo Rondinone gives a poetic dimension to everyday things or phenomena. A tree, a watch, the sun or a rainbow – with the means of repetition, isolation or reduction, he places them in a new context with his typical minimalism and creates atmospheric mood pictures.
The Schirn is devoting a large ensemble exhibition to Rondinone, which presents central paintings, sculptures and video works by the renowned Swiss artist. He has also designed a new installation especially for the Schirn that spans the length of the gallery and the rotunda. The exhibition and the book “Life Time” bring together essential themes that have marked the creation of the conceptual installation artist for 30 years: time and its flight, day and night, reality and fiction, nature and culture. Always, Rondinone takes up the iconography of romanticism in his work, citing literature and pop culture.”
