Monet Mitchell : Les Couleurs De La Lumiere
The catalogue of the exhibition “Monet Mitchell”, organised at the Fondation Louis Vuitton in partnership with the Musée Marmottan Monet, explores the correspondences between the late works of Claude Monet (1914-1926), which anticipate the beginnings of abstraction, and the paintings of Joan Mitchell (1925-1992). An American painter of abstract expressionism, Joan Mitchell travelled to France from 1948 and settled in 1968 in Vétheuil, a place of inspiration where Monet also lived from 1878 to 1881.
The masterpieces and essays gathered here underline the points of convergence linked to colour, light, gesturality, nature and the landscapes of Giverny and Vétheuil, which deeply inspired both artists.
