Raymond Depardon is a photographer and filmmaker. He is considered one of the masters of documentary film and his photographic work is internationally acclaimed.

“I had to put an end to this decade of violence as quickly as possible, which had begun with the loss of Gilles [Caron] and continued in April 1975 with the death of Michel Laurent in Vietnam. The next on the list, I was sure, was me. Continuing to take war photos, at my own risk, no longer made sense. At the time, there was a huge gap between the photo reporters and the French humanist photographers.
