At night, in a city, two friends wander from bar to bar, chattering away. Under the street lamps, in front of closed shop windows, the friends ironically distil their disillusionment and their discontent with life. Beer after beer, they evoke their disappointed loves, the grotesque of life or even history, whose traces remain very present despite the passing of time. Nightbirds is the first collaboration between German cartoonist Nicolas Mahler and Czech author Jaroslav Rudiš. The lines hit the nail on the head and the two authors’ worlds blend perfectly in this nocturnal, metaphysical and biting excursion.
