Although the postmodern movement in architecture has had its day, as defined here by the years 1973 and 1993, it seems that the issues that gave rise to it (the resource and energy crisis, shared references and values – particularly social ones – the rejection of cold, rational modernism, a thwarted relationship with history…) are still highly topical. Jean-Louis VIOLEAU’s guide PARIS POSTMODERNE – ARCHITECTURES 1973-1993 offers visitors a chance to revisit these Parisian and metropolitan works, overtaken by the passage of half a century. Soon to become part of our heritage but still childish, singular, sometimes unusual and often fragile, some have made a lasting impression on our retinas and imaginations, while others have preferred to take refuge in an uneasy silence. This book is a wake-up call, offering a first inventory of almost 600 illustrated buildings.
