Shame! And Masculinity

Since the Me Too movement, the focus has been on so-called “toxic” masculinity, which has an impact on our perception of male sexuality and has a significant influence on men’s self-image and self-esteem. This book examines the representation of male sexuality, nudity, fatherhood, male violence, rape, fascism, virility, men and war. These texts are accompanied by works of art that deal with the complexities and contradictions of these socio-cultural constructions and realities. Shame! and Masculinity is hybrid in terms of genre, combining scholarly essays with short stories, personal testimonies and provocative and intimate artist contributions. It stimulates reflection on shame in collusion with masculinity, from both male and female perspectives. It thus encourages us to re-imagine these issues that simultaneously play a role in society, in our own experience, in history, and in our own bodies and being.
