Kirstine RoepstorffThe Archive of Dark
A performance, a theatre, a multidimensional document. An effort to merge language and formlessness in an aspiration for cyclical work. A stage for these mergers to happen. A reminder that when we grow, we don’t just grow upwards. The already porous membrane that seems to separate dark from light, pain from joy, active from passive becomes intensely insignificant when we have the opportunity to observe ourselves through the looking glass. The Archive of Dark is a book project that is the epilogue to a body of work on darkness, including two separate but coherent exhibitions: Influenza, Theatre of Glowing Darkness, 2017 and Renaissance of the Night, 2018. The book weaves together a dense collection of historical images into an organic and emotive narrative. It presents a series of letters from various contributors that include perceptual, intellectual, spiritual, scientific and artistic reflections.
