Thorsten Baensch, Norbert Schoebel Von Ort Zu Ort, 12 Jahre Zu Fuss
“In 2004, Norbert Schöbel and his partner Thorsten Baensch started walking from their adopted home in Brussels to Norbert’s home town of Munich. This was the first major stage of a Grand Tour of more than 3000 km tracing a circle through Europe in 155 days over 12 years and 7 months. Hamburg, where Thorsten grew up, was also part of the trip, as well as Berlin, Prague and many other cities and towns. They travelled through seven countries: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Luxembourg and the Netherlands.
This large-format book of 768 pages is the report of their quest. It documents the contemplative aspects of hiking and the discovery of ordinary but strangely man-made landscapes and intriguing places. This illustrated travelogue with detailed maps created for each day presents a Europe without borders and takes the reader on a journey marked by various leitmotifs such as danger, death and nature. This heart-warming book is a celebration of the simplicity of walking together on the same path, in a time of great complexity and divergence.
Note: Von Ort zu Ort is written in German with short summaries in English for each stage.”
