Frederick GautierFCK Paysages concrets
A monograph that traces the various residencies and performances of Frederick Gautier, artist, designer and ceramist.
FCK, Frédérick Gautier’s initials, also stand for the characteristic compressive strength of concrete after it has dried for one moon, i.e. 28 days.
From the hold of a barge designed by Le Corbusier to Niemeyer’s PCF headquarters and the bed of the Los Angeles River, Frédérick Gautier is inspired by urban landscapes to create everyday ceramic objects. He delivers a version that is always rough, imperfect and rough, close to the aesthetics of concrete, thanks to a material that he has developed. For this itinerant artist/craftsman, who has had a career as an artistic director in the film industry and then studied landscape design at the École nationale supérieure de paysage de Versailles, each residency is a total art project.
